What is a device database?
The database contains all objects, their configuration, and their data. This includes inputs, outputs, variables, trend logs, schedules, and all other objects in a device.
Why do you need to save your database?
When a controller powers on, it will load its database from the onboard non-volatile flash memory. Any changes made to a device's database, which are not saved to flash memory, will be lost on the next controller reset or power cycle.
Note that the O3 Sense and O3 Edge automatically save to flash every 6 hours.
Software/Firmware Compatibility
Database backups cannot be loaded into devices running older firmware. For example, databases created in firmware 2.4 or later cannot be loaded into devices running firmware 2.3 or earlier.
You should save the device database after making any changes to its database, using one of the following methods (in enteliWEB or enteliCLOUD):
- Save database to flash: This commands the controller to save its current database to onboard flash memory. The next time the device starts up, it will load this database.
- Save database to enteliWEB server: This commands a save to flash, and then also sends that database backup to the enteliWEB server. enteliWEB will store a copy of this database permanently, and it can be restored to the device (or other devices) in the future.
- Save database to file: This commands a save to flash, and then also sends that database backup to your web browser. This allows you to keep a copy of the database on your local PC, which can be restored to the device (or other devices) in the future.
Saving the Database Using Flash
To manually save your database to flash:
- Select the devices that you want to perform the Save Database to Flash action on. Select Delta devices only.
- Click Device Actions, and then click Save Database > To Flash from the list. A confirmation dialog opens.
- Click Yes to command the device or devices to execute the Save Database to Flash action.
Note: If you are selecting another method to save your database, simply select one of the other options.
