For best results, the O3 should be placed on the ceiling centered above the main area where occupants are located, e.g., above a meeting room table in a conference room or office. If the O3 has to be placed off center, the occupancy estimation will still work as long as it is not placed in a corner or close to walls.
Occupancy estimation uses a complex AI learning algorithm based on many hours of collected data (see the Occupancy Estimate whitepaper for more details). The result is exposed in BACnet object AV40. The Present_Value property of AV40 will be automatically updated periodically (every 5 minutes) with the estimated occupancy count.
Viewing Hourly Statistics
Hourly statistics are calculated automatically by the algorithm as well. To view them, create the following AV objects:
BACnet Object | Description |
AV251 | Average estimated occupancy during previous hour. |
AV252 | Minimum estimated occupancy during previous hour. |
AV253 | Maximum estimated occupancy during previous hour. |
